I just came across this video, which was presented at the Future of Web Design 2008 by Hillman Curtis. It's part of his Artist Series, and features James Victore. I love how it serves as a "call to action" to us in the design and media world...
"The social political stuff, the cultural stuff, that is what graphic design is for. That is it at its best, not to sell socks. Ya know, It’s good for selling socks, but not for that. Graphic design is a big fucking club with spikes in it, and I wanna wield it. And I wanna use it. I wanna use it in its pure, strongest,fullest potential."
